The Chamber Music Society of Saint Cloud presents the Harlem Quartet in a program titled Cross Pollination, showcasing the exchange of musical ideas and styles between the classical European tradition and world music. Their program features works by Jessie Montgomery, William Grant Still, Wynton Marsalis, Guido López-Gavilán, Caroline Shaw, and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel.
Harlem Quartet has been praised for its “panache” by The New York Times and hailed in the Cincinnati Enquirer for “bringing a new attitude to classical music, one that is fresh, bracing and intelligent.” Since its public debut in 2006 at Carnegie Hall, the ensemble has thrilled audiences and students in 47 states as well as in the U.K., France, Belgium, Brazil, Panama, Canada, Venezuela, Japan, Ethiopia, and South Africa. Harlem Quartet’s unique programming combines standard string quartet literature with jazz, Latin, and contemporary works.
